Terms of Service

1. Beta / early access

WordAddle is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis while in beta. Features may change, break, or be removed at any time, and the game may be unavailable from time to time. We make no promise that the game will be error-free or uninterrupted during this early-access period.

2. Using WordAddle

WordAddle is a casual word game intended for personal, non-commercial enjoyment. Please use it fairly: do not attempt to disrupt the service, abuse it, or use it in any unlawful way.

3. Word lists & content

The puzzles draw on third-party word lists (credited below). Inclusion of any word reflects those source lists and is not an endorsement of its meaning.

4. Intellectual property

The original WordAddle game concept is copyright © 2026 Elizabeth Pledge. The game application, design, and code are copyright © 2026 thus(digital) ltd. The third-party resources we build on remain the property of their respective authors and are used under their permissive licences (see "Third-party credits" below).

5. No warranty & liability

As a free beta, WordAddle comes with no warranties. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the game. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be excluded under UK law.

6. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as WordAddle develops, especially as it moves from beta towards public launch. The "last updated" date above shows when they last changed.

Privacy Policy

Who we are

WordAddle is operated by thus(digital) ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom. For privacy matters thus(digital) ltd is the data controller.

What we collect

• Sign-in details - if you choose to create an account, you sign in with Google or Microsoft. Your chosen provider tells us your name and email address so we can set up and identify your account. Signing in is optional; you can play without an account in this version.
• Your game progress - if you are signed in, we store your results and daily progress on our server so they follow you across your devices. If you play without signing in, this stays only in your own browser and is not sent to us.
• Product analytics - information about how the game is used (for example which puzzles are played, how features are used, and how the game performs), so we can understand and improve it. For signed-in players this may be linked to your account. We never sell it and never use it to track you across other websites.

Cookies & local storage

WordAddle stores a small amount of information in your browser (for example your daily result and settings) so the game works properly. This stays on your device. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies.

Our lawful basis (UK GDPR)

• Consent - for any beta-update or marketing emails you ask to receive. You can withdraw it at any time (see "Your rights").
• Legitimate interests - to run your account, keep your progress in sync, keep the game secure, and improve it through analytics, in a way you would reasonably expect and that does not override your rights.

How we use your information

• To create your account and let you sign in.
• To save and sync your game progress across your devices.
• To send you beta updates, if you have asked for them.
• To understand and improve the game through analytics.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers we need to run WordAddle, each acting on our instructions:

• Google - to let you sign in (Google's own privacy terms apply to your Google account).
• Microsoft - to let you sign in (Microsoft's own privacy terms apply to your Microsoft account).
• Our hosting and database provider - to run the game and store your account and progress, on servers in the UK/EU.
• Our analytics provider - to help us understand how the game is used.
• Our email provider - if you have asked for beta updates.

We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

Where your data is held

Your account and game progress are stored on servers in the UK/EU. Some of our providers may process limited data outside the UK; where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards as required by UK data-protection law.

Retention

We keep your account details and progress for as long as you hold an account or stay on the beta list. If you ask us to delete your account or erase your data, we will, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to withdraw your consent at any time, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

WordAddle is built with help from these third-party resources, used under permissive licences that require their attribution be retained.

The game's word lists are derived from SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists), via the English Speller Database at wordlist.aspell.net. Copyright 2000-2026 by Kevin Atkinson. SCOWL and the lists derived from it may be used, copied, modified, distributed and sold provided this copyright notice is retained.
